Birmingham Barons

The Birmingham Barons are the Class AA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and play in the South Division of the Southern League League with the Jacksonville Suns, Montgomery Biscuits, Mississippi Braves and Mobile Bay Bears.

    History:

    The current version of the Barons were formed in 1981 as the Class AA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Two earlier versions of the Barons were in existence from 1901-61 and 1964-65. Affiliations over the years:

    • 1939-45: Cincinnati Reds, Southern (AA)
    • 1946: Pittsburgh Pirates, Southern (AA)
    • 1947: Philadelphia A’s, Southern (AA)

    • 1953-56: New York Yankees, Southern (AA)
    • 1957-61: Detroit Tigers, Southern (AA)
    • 1964-65: Kansas City Athletics, Southern (AA)
    • 1981-85: Detroit Tigers, Southern (AA)
    • 1986-present: Chicago White Sox, Southern (AA)

    Dixie Series: 5 (1929, 1931, 1948, 1951, 1958)

    Southern League: 5 (1983, 1987, 1989, 1993, 2002)
