Before The Bigs:
- Lettered in baseball, basketball and football at Vallejo High School, and signed a letter of intent to play football for Hawaii. He was a tight end.
- Was drafted in the first round by the Indians (20th overall) and received a $1.3 million bonus.
- Ascended rapidly through the Indians minor-league ranks and, despite going 3-7 at Double-A Akron in 2000, he made the Indians big-league roster as the fifth starter in 2001.
- Went 17-5 as a rookie in 2001 and defeated the 116-win Seattle Mariners in Game 3 of the Division Series in Cleveland. He finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting behind Ichiro Suzuki.
- Made his first AL All-Star team in 2003. Also named to the team in 2004 and 2007.
- Led the AL in complete games in 2006 with six and also threw two shutouts and was third in ERA (3.22), going 15-10.
- Won the American League Cy Young in 2007, going 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA in his final full season in Cleveland.
- Traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on July 7, 2008, leading the team to the playoffs for the first time since 1982.
- Signed a seven-year, $161 million contract with the New York Yankees before the 2009 season.
