Before the Bigs:

Led Southington High School to a state championship in 1994.

He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox out of high school, in the 13th round of the 1994 draft.

He started the Class AA all-star game in 1996, his breakthrough year in the minors.

Was part of the trade that sent ace pitcher Pedro Martinez to Boston, going to the Montreal Expos with pitcher Tony Armas Jr.

Career Highlights:

Made his major league debut on May 23, 1998 for the Expos.

Was traded to the Florida Marlins in 2002, where he assumed an important role for the 2003 World Series champions.

Went 18-8 with a 3.00 ERA in 2004, the final year of his contract in Florida, and signed a four-year, $39.95 contract with the New York Yankees.

Heading into the 2007 season, Pavano had just five wins for the Yankees because of an assortment of injuries (shoulder, bruised buttocks, broken ribs suffered in an auto accident) and is likely to miss the rest of the 2007 season with an elbow injury.
