The Giants, thanks to stellar pitching by a young rotation of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner, along with an overachieving group of everyday players who rose to the occasion, beat the Texas Rangers in five games in the World Series.
Shortstop Edgar Renteria, injured most of the season, hit a three-run homer in Game 5 and won MVP honors. He was only the fourth player to get a game-winning hit in the deciding game of the World Series twice in his career - he had a walk-off single in Game 7 in 1997 for the Marlins.
