Career Highlights:

  • Most durable catcher in history, playing 24 seasons and catching 2,226 games.
  • He was one of the best power-hitting catchers ever, with 376 homers and a .269 average. Only Mike Piazza has more HRs by a catcher.
  • Hit memorable home run to end Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.
  • A 10-time All-Star, he was unanimous Rookie of the Year in 1972.
  • Hit 37 homers and drove in 107 at age 37 for the White Sox in 1985.

After Retirement:

  • Actually played more games for the White Sox, but entered the Hall of Fame as a Red Sox. His No. 27 is retired by the Red Sox and his No. 72 is retired by the White Sox.
