For the fifth season, About.com Baseball is back with its comprehensive fantasy baseball rankings. We've added some tweaks to the formula for 2013 and are confident the rankings are as accurate as ever. They'll be updated weekly in March, looking at trends, injuries and other developments. We're also presenting the players in tiers this season, which is an organized way of attacking a draft and taking scarcity at a position into account.
This week, we'll unveil one position group each day, leading off with the backstops.
There is a lot of young talent at this position, but the top spots are still occupied by more accomplished veterans. And while getting big offense from the position is tough if you don't spend a first-round pick on Buster Posey, there are serviceable options for every team in medium-sized leagues.
The top five:
- Buster Posey, Giants
- Joe Mauer, Twins
- Carlos Santana, Indians
- Yadier Molina, Cardinals
- Wilin Rosario, Rockies
Here's a look at the top 20 catchers, plus five more, divided into five tiers.
