College baseball's "June Madness" gets underway this weekend across the country. The NCAA college baseball tournament will whittle down to 16 teams by next week, and eight will make the trip to Omaha, Neb., for the final College World Series to be played at Rosenblatt Stadium. (A new stadium is being built in Omaha that will open next year.)

The national top eight seeds:

  1. Arizona State (47-8)
  2. Texas (46-11)
  3. Florida (42-15)
  4. Coastal Carolina (51-7)
  5. Virginia (47-11)
  6. UCLA (43-13)
  7. Louisville (48-12)
  8. Georgia Tech (45-13)

The defending national champion is LSU, which is one of eight Southeastern Conference teams in the field. The Atlantic Coast Conference and Pacific-10 also has eight teams.

Florida International infielder Garrett Wittels takes a 54-game hitting streak into the tournament, four short of the NCAA record 58 set by former big-leaguer Robin Ventura in 1987. Wittels and FIU plays Texas A&M in their first game on Friday.

The College World Series is scheduled to begin June 19. Check out the full bracket on NCAA.com.
