The West Virginia Power, of Charleston, W.Va., is a Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers and plays in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League with the Delmarva Shorebirds, Greensboro Grasshoppers, Hagerstown Suns, Hickory Crawdads, Lake County Captains, Lakewood BlueClaws and Lexington Legends.

    History:

    Minor league baseball has existed on and off since 1910 in Charleston, W. Va. This franchise was founded in 1987 as the Charleston Wheelers, a Class A South Atlantic League affiliate with players from several major league franchises. The team became the Charleston Alley Cats in 1995, then the West Virginia Power in 2005. Affiliations over the years:

    • 1988-89: Chicago Cubs, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 1990-94: Cincinnati Reds, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 1995-2000: Kansas City Royals, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 2001-04: Toronto Blue Jays, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 2005-present: Milwaukee Brewers, South Atlantic League (A)
