The Hagerstown (Md.) Suns are a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals and plays in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League with the Delmarva Shorebirds, Greensboro Grasshoppers, Hickory Crawdads, Lake County Captains, Lakewood BlueClaws, Lexington Legends and West Virginia Power.

    History:

    The franchise was founded in 1981 as a Class A Carolina League affiliate of the Baltimore. It became a Double-A franchise in the Eastern League from 1988-1992, then fell back to a Single-A in 1993, when the team joined the South Atlantic League:

    • 1981-87: Baltimore Orioles, Carolina League (A)
    • 1988-92: Baltimore Orioles, Eastern League (AA)
    • 1993-2000: Toronto Blue Jays, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 2001-04: San Francisco Giants, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 2005-06: New York Mets, South Atlantic League (A)
    • 2007-present: Washington Nationals, South Atlantic League (A)
