History:

The franchise was founded in 1883 as the New York Gothams. They became the New York Giants in 1885 and moved to San Francisco in 1958, becoming the first major league team in California.

Memorable Moments:

  • Aided by a 16-game winning streak late in the season, the 1951 New York Giants rallied to tie the Brooklyn Dodgers for the NL pennant, and won in a three-game playoff on a three-run home run in the ninth inning by Bobby Thomson, a homer dubbed “The Shot Heard ’Round The World.”
  • In 2001, outfielder Barry Bonds had one of the greatest seasons statistically in baseball history, hitting a record 73 home runs. He hit .328, drove in 137 runs and walked 177 times.
