Before The Bigs:

  • Played three seasons at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe), where he once struck out 20 batters in a game. He was the Southland Conference Player of the Year in 1999
  • Drafted in the first round (10th overall) in 1999 by the Brewers.
  • Was the Brewers’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2000, when he went 8-8 with a combined 2.40 ERA at Double-A Huntsville and Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • Played on the U.S. team in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
  • Career Highlights:

    • Made the Brewers’ rotation in 2001, and finished 11-10 with 264 strikeouts as a rookie and represented the Brewers on the National League All-Star team.
    • Struck out 18 on May 16, 2004 against the Atlanta Braves.
    • Struck out three batters in nine pitches against the Houston Astros on June 13, 2004.
    • Struck out 264 batters in 2004, second in the NL.
    • Missed part of the 2005 and 2006 seasons with an inner ear infection and a shoulder injury.
    • Threw an opening-day two-hit shutout over the Dodgers in 2007.
    • NL All-Star selection in 2001, 2004 and 2007.
