- Was the seventh overall pick by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2002 draft out of Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Florida.

- Moved up one level per year in the minors, hitting .319 with 27 home runs and 112 RBIs at Single-A Beloit in 2003, 23 home runs at Double-A Huntsville in 2004 and 28 home runs at Triple-A Nashville in 2005.
