Before The Bigs:

  • Drafted in the fifth round (155th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1996.
  • Went 10-5 at Single-A South Bend in 1997 and 14-5 and struck out 207 at Single-A High Desert in 1998, but struggled at the Double-A level in 1999 and was traded to the Marlins in a midseason deal that brought closer Matt Mantei to Arizona.
  • Made the Marlins’ roster in 2000.
  • Career Highlights:

    • Defeated the Rockies in his big-league debut on April and went 8-7 in his rookie season.
    • Won 10 games and posted a 3.69 ERA in 2001, lowest among Marlins starters.
    • Went 14-10 in 2003 and 3-0 in the playoffs. He won two games in the World Series against the Yankees.
    • Was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 30, 2004 a trade that brought Paul Lo Duca, Guillermo Mota, and Juan Encarnacion to Florida.
    • After a 7-9 season in 2005, he went 16-9 in 2006 and started the 2007 season with a 10-1 record a the All-Star break.
    • Named to the NL All-Star team in 2006 and 2007.
