  • Attended Arizona State, and was a three-time All-Pac-10 pick and the 2003 National Defensive Player of the Year. Hit .384 in his three college seasons with a .466 on-base percentage.
  • Selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round (65th overall) in the 2004 draft.
  • Hit .357 at Single-A Augusta and Sarasota in 2004, then .324 with eight home runs at Double-A Portland in 2005.
  • Spent most of 2006 season at Triple-A Pawtucket, where he hit .305 with 50 RBI.
  • Career Highlights:

    • Hit .191 in 89 at-bats after a call-up late in the 2006 season.
    • Started the 2007 season in a platoon role and was hitting .172 on May 1, but he was named Rookie of the Month in May.
    • Finished the season hitting .317 with eight homers and 50, helping the Red Sox to the AL East title. He's a front-runner for AL Rookie of the Year.
