Before The Bigs:

  • Was 38th overall pick in the 2001 draft by the New York Mets out of Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. He also signed a national letter of intent to play in college for Georgia Tech, but signed with the Mets instead.
  • He was a three-time all-state selection in Virginia.
  • Drove in 93 runs for Capital City in Single-A in 2002, and was named a Florida State League all-star in 2003.
  • Was named the Mets’ Minor League Player of the Year in 2004, when he hit .363 with 10 home runs at Double-A Binghampton and .298 with eight home runs in 31 games for Triple-A Norfolk before he was called up to the Mets on July 21.
  • Career Highlights:

    • Batted .293 with 14 home runs in the remainder of the 2004 season.
    • Batted .306 with 27 home runs and 102 RBIs in his first full season with the Mets.
    • Was voted onto his first All-Star team in 2006, when he .311 with 26 home runs and 116 RBIs.
    • Had a 26-game hitting streak that spanned the end of the 2006 season and ended on April 21, 2007.
