Before The Bigs:

  • Selected in the seventh round of the 1999 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.
  • Hit .306 with 11 home runs, 47 RBI and 39 stolen bases at Single-A Potomac in 2001.
  • Was hitting .301 in Double-A when he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2002, completing a deal in which the Indians sent pitcher Chuck Finley to St. Louis.
  • Made his big-league debut that August, and split the 2003 season between Cleveland and Triple-A Buffalo.
  • Career Highlights:

    • Playing center field and left field for the Indians in 2003, he hit .266 with 15 stolen bases. In 2004 as the Indians' primary center fielder, he hit .297 with 15 home runs, 71 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
    • Hit .300 with 16 home runs and 69 RBI in 2005, his final season with the Indians.
    • Was traded to the Boston Red Sox on January 27, 2006 with Josh Bard and David Riske to the Boston Red Sox for Guillermo Mota, Andy Marte, Kelly Shoppach, and cash.
    • Suffered through an injury-plagued first season in Boston, hitting .264 with eight home runs. Hit .268 with six home runs in 2007.
