Before The Bigs:
  • He was an outstanding wide receiver in football, and received college scholarship offers.
  • Was picked in the first round of the 2005 draft by the Boston Red Sox with the 42nd overall pick. His draft stock slipped as he was arrested in April 2004 and charged with stealing 29 laptops from a middle school and selling them.
  • Went 12-1 with a 1.05 ERA in 2005 for Angelina College, a community college in Crockett, Texas.
  • Advanced from rookie level to high-A in one season, going 11-4 with 140 strikeouts in 119 innings in 2006.
Career Highlights:
  • Made his major-league debut on Aug. 17, 2007, and picked up his first victory after throwing six innings of a win over the Los Angeles Angels.
  • After two starts in the minors, Buchholz threw a no-hitter in his second career start, a 10-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. He was the first rookie to throw a no-hitter in his second start since the Chicago White Sox's Wilson Alvarez in 2001.
