Metrodome Memories

State of the art in 1982, the Twins leave it in 2010

By , About.com Guide

In theory, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome made perfect sense. In the coldest city that has a Major League baseball team, the Metrodome was the first major sports facility to have a domed roof supported completely by air. And the Twins had a built-in advantage with the translucent roof, baggie fences, rock-hard artificial turf field and very loud acoustics. But as outdoor ballparks came back in style, the Metrodome became a relic. It had three primary tenants - the MLB's Twins, the NFL's Vikings and the University of Minnesota football team. It is the only venue to host a MLB All-Star Game (1985), a Super Bowl (1992), an NCAA Final Four (1992, 2001), and a World Series (1987 1991). The Twins move to Target Field in 2010.
