USA Softball select the team at a tryout camp the summer before the Olympics.

They base their selections on many criteria, including availability, position played, playing ability, versatility, coachability, attitude and adaptability to team concepts.

The committee uses live scouting, tapes and statistics to make their evaluations of the players. University of Arizona coach Mike Candrea will be the coach of the U.S. team for the second time in the 2008 games in Beijing.
