The players on the U.S. Olympic softball team are selected at an open tryout in the year before the Olympics. For the most part, they are either professional players in the National Pro Fast-Pitch League (NPF) or standout college softball players.

All players on the U.S. team must be U.S. citizens and have a valid passport and abide by the Olympic drug-testing rules.
