The New York Yankees played their first game in the new Yankee Stadium on April 16, 2009. It was built for $1.5 billion (including improvements to the area around the stadium, including roads), a record for a baseball stadium and second only to Wembley Stadium in London. It is next door to the previous Yankee Stadium, which was built in 1923 and renovated for the 1976 season.
