Finding the right fantasy baseball league name can make a huge difference when you're talking trades or roster moves with your buddies. It's important to have a great league name! Do you really want the following conversation to happen with any of your friends or league mates?

You: Hey, let's do a trade!

Him: In which league?

You: In the KP5V#&795!% League!

Him: I hate that league. It makes me think that I'm playing with chess computers.

Owners want a fantasy baseball league name that rolls off the tongue! They want one that pops with pizzazz! One that has chutzpah! And if your league name is no good, it's doubtful that you've done a good job with your fantasy baseball team name, either.

You can't just call yourself "The League." This might sound like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many fantasy baseball leagues are simply called, "The League" or "The Fantasy League." You just can't-do it — for several reasons.

  1. You're likely in more than one league.
  2. Your opponents are likely in more than one league so any reference to "The League" would be confusing. You'd have to start referring to other aspects, like "My draft for The League with all those Red Sox fans starts this weekend." That just doesn't roll off the tongue!
  3. Some fantasy league services require that you use your league name as the differentiator and it's sometimes used in your league's URL. For example, if you use "The League" on CBSSports.com, there are already two other leagues calling themselves that. Your league URL would have to be http://theleague3.baseball.cbssports.com/ and that's a good way of saying, "We're just not creative."
  4. It's boring.

So let's take a look at some ideas for fantasy baseball league names. Hopefully, we'll come up with one you'll like, or at least with a few ideas that might spark your own league name creation.

Fantasy Baseball League Names Breakdown

The league name breaks down into several different parts, depending on your group's style.

  • What will you call the collection of people/teams you've assembled? A league? A conference? An association?
  • What flashy name can you attach that sets your league apart?
  • Do you want "fantasy" or a word like it in the name?
  • Do you want "baseball" in the name?

I'm a big fan of naming your league something that connects your entire group of friends (or most of the group) together. Do you all work in the same place? Do you all live in the same neighborhood? Go to the same school? Go to the same bar? Date the same girl? Maybe don't use that one. The point is, you might want something that you all take pride in – or is at least something that's funny to all of you.

Don't overlook random connections: Are you all parents of kids in the same daycare/school/high school football team? Do you all associate in the same message boards or forums about a completely different topic?

There are thousands of ways you might know the group of people you play fantasy baseball with, and those ways might not be easily identifiable.
