Position by position, a look at the matchups between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies in the 2007 National League Championship Series:
Catcher
Arizona: Chris Snyder (.252, 13 HR, 47 RBI)
Colorado: Yorvit Torrealba (.255, 8 HR, 47 RBI)
EDGE: DIAMONDBACKS. Snyder handles the Arizona pitchers well and provides some pop at the plate.
First Base
Arizona: Conor Jackson (.284, 15 HR, 60 RBI)
Colorado: Todd Helton (.320, 17 HR, 91 RBI)
EDGE: ROCKIES. The Diamondbacks could also go with Tony Clark at times at first base, but neither are as good as Helton, whose .320 average is actually 12 points below his career average.
Second Base
Arizona: Augie Ojeda (.274, 1 HR, 12 RBI)
Colorado: Kazuo Matsui (.288, 4 HR, 37 RBI)
Edge: ROCKIES. Matsui is red hot, and without Orlando Hudson, Arizona will go with Ojeda and Alberto Callaspo (.215, 0 HR, 7 RBI). Hudson (thumb injury) could return if Arizona makes the World Series.
Shortstop
Arizona: Stephen Drew (.238, 12 HR, 60 RBI)
Colorado: [link urlhttp://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=453064]Troy Tulowitzki[/link] (.291, 24 HR, 99 RBI)
Edge: ROCKIES. Two of the best young shortstops in the league. Tulowitzki is a bit better in the field.
Third Base
Arizona: Mark Reynolds (.279, 17 HR, 62 RBI)
Colorado: Garrett Atkins (.301, 25 HR, 111 RBI)
Edge: ROCKIES. Atkins is quietly one of the top run-producers in the league.
Left Field
Arizona: Eric Byrnes (.286, 21 HR, 83 RBI)
Colorado: Matt Holliday (.340, 36 HR, 137 RBI)
Edge: ROCKIES. Byrnes is the heart of the Diamondbacks, but Holliday is the best hitter in the National League this season.Center Field
Arizona: Chris Young (.237, 32 HR, 68 RBI)
Colorado: Ryan Spilborghs (.299, 11 HR, 51 RBI)
Edge: DIAMONDBACKS. Spilborghs is solid, and if he falters, the Rockies have activated Willy Tavaras for this series. But Young is a budding star in center field for Arizona.
Right Field
Arizona: Justin Upton (.221, 2 HR, 11 RBI)
Colorado: Brad Hawpe (.291, 29 HR, 116 RBI)
Edge: ROCKIES. Hawpe is another unheralded star for Colorado. Upton could be a great one someday, but he's only 20. The Diamondbacks could also turn to Jeff Salazar (.277, 1 HR, 10 RBI).
