The Charlotte (N.C.) Knights are the Class AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and play in the South Division of the International League with the Durham Bulls, Norfolk Tides and Richmond Braves.

    The franchise was founded in 1976 as the Charlotte Orioles, a Class AA Southern League franchise. The team became the Knights in 1989, and became a Triple-A team in 1993. Franchise affiliations over the years:

    • 1989-92: Chicago Cubs, Southern League (AA)
    • 1993-95: Cleveland Indians, International League (AAA)
