The Buffalo Bisons are the Class AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and play in the North Division of the International League with the Ottawa Lynx, Pawtucket Red Sox, Rochester Red Wings, Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees and Syracuse Chiefs.

    History:

    The franchise was founded in 1979 as the Class AA Eastern League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It became a Triple-A franchise when the Wichita Aeros' franchise rights were moved to Buffalo. Other affiliations over the years:

    • 1983-84: Cleveland Indians, Eastern League (AA)
    • 1985-86: Chicago White Sox, American Association (AAA)
    • 1987: Cleveland Indians, American Association (AAA)
    • 1988-94: Pittsburgh Pirates, American Association (AAA)
    • 1995-97: Cleveland Indians, American Association (AAA)
    • 1998: Cleveland Indians, International League (AAA)
