Teams: As player, Washington Senators (1956-58), Kansas City Athletics (1958-60), Baltimore Orioles (1961-62) and Detroit Tigers (1963). As manager, Texas Rangers (1973), California Angels (1974), Kansas City Royals (1975-79) and St. Louis Cardinals (1980-90). He was general manager of the Angels in 1993 and 1994.

Career Highlights:
- As a player, he batted .257 lifetime in eight seasons as an outfielder, mostly as a reserve.
- Began his post-playing career as a scout for the A's in 1964, and was the Mets' director of player development from 1967-72.
- Went 47-91 as Rangers manager in 1973, and 2-2 as an interim manager of the Angels in 1974.
- Won three consecutive AL West titles as manager of the Royals from 1976-78, and won 102 games in 1977.
- Hired by St. Louis in 1980, and won six divisions, three pennants and the 1982 World Series.
- Named Manager of the Year in 1985 and UPI Executive of the Year as GM/manager of the Cardinals in 1981 and 1982.
- "Whiteyball" was his style - he believed in strong pitching, speed and defense over power, a game that worked well on the artificial turf fields of the day in Kansas City and St. Louis.
