Primary position: Third base

Career Highlights:

  • Considered one of the best defensive third basemen of all-time, with great range and outstanding hands.
  • Also a great hitter for average, with a lifetime .355 average in the Negro National League.
  • Also played in Latin America (when in contract disputes) and spent most of the 1940s in Mexico.
  • After the color barrier was broken, he played for Minneapolis of the American Association and won the league's MVP award in 1950, batting .363. The Giants never promoted him to the majors, however.

After Retirement:

  • Willie Mays credited Dandridge for helping him in his development when both played in Indianapolis.
  • Worked as a scout for the Giants and ran a recreation center in Newark, N.J.
