Career Highlights:
- Considered one of the greatest defensive third basemen of all-time. His 601 chances in 1899 is a National League record.
- A career .294 hitter, he hit .300 or better five times and .346 in 1897. Led the NL in home runs with 15 in 1898.
- Was player-manager of the Red Sox from 1901-06 - their first six seasons - and won two pennants and the 1903 World Series.
After Retirement:
- He played and managed in the minors after his retirement before retiring to his native Buffalo. He was wiped out by the Depression and became a Buffalo parks employee.
