After Baseball:
- After retiring as a player, Bunning managed in the minors for five years, was a leading figure in the founding of the players' union and then entered politics. He was elected to the Kentucky state legislature and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican in 1986. He was elected to the Senate in 1998.
