  • A lifetime .297 hitter, he tied to the NL lead with 14 triples for the Pirates in 1919 and hit .320 with 16 home runs and 99 RBI in 1926 as the Cardinals won the World Series.
  • Known as a strict taskmaster, he was better known as a manager of the Cardinals and Boston Braves, and his record was 1,770-1,044 with four first-place finishes and two World Series titles. He managed the Braves to their first pennant in 34 years in 1948.
  • His .593 managerial winning percentage is sixth-best all-time.
