Career Highlights:
- A founding and influential member of the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York City, Cartwright is credited with establishing many of the rules of baseball and adapting it from a children's game to an adult sport.
- Introduced the game throughout the country when he left New York during the Gold Rush.
After Baseball:
- A banker by trade, he became a prominent merchant and banker in Hawaii and even served as the Honolulu fire chief in the 1800s.
