History:

The franchise was founded in 1993 as a National League expansion team.

Memorable Moments:

  • The Marlins became the first wild-card team to win a World Series in 1997 when they defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games, winning on an 11th-inning single in Game 7 by Edgar Renteria.
  • Florida won its second title in 2003, again from the NL wild-card spot. They came back from a 3-1 deficit in the National League Championship Series, famously avoiding an out during a game-changing rally in Game 6 at Wrigley Field when Cubs fan Steve Bartman interfered with a foul fly ball in play hit by Luis Castillo. The Marlins then defeated the New York Yankees in six games in the World Series.
