Joe Mauer, Twins
Average position ranking on other popular fantasy baseball sites: 3
Why he's liked: He was the American League batting champ in 2006, when he lived up to his billing as the No. 1 overall choice of the 2001 amateur draft by hitting 13 home runs and driving in 84 runs.
Why you should be wary: He played in only 109 games last season, during which he was bothered by a stress reaction in his left fibula to start the season and quadriceps, hamstring, ankle and groin injuries once it began. He's very good, but is he better than the Braves' Brian McCann and the Yankees' Jordge Posada, both of whom he's ranked higher than? I would say no. In the last two seasons, McCann (42 home runs, 185 RBI) and Posada (43 HRs, 183 RBI) have much better power numbers than the injury-prone Mauer (20 HRs, 144 RBI).
