Most underrated fantasy designated hitter

Frank Thomas will turn 40 this year, but still gets on base, drives in runs, and is playing on a team with players who should get on base for him.

Frank Thomas, Blue Jays

Average position ranking on other popular fantasy baseball sites: 8

Why he’s not liked: He’s ancient by baseball standards (like Gary Sheffield, he’ll turn 40 this year), he can play only one position and he’s stolen as many bases the last five seasons as you and me.

Why he should be: While Sheffield is ranked 64th overall by Yahoo, Thomas likely will be a late-round pick at best. In the latter rounds of the draft, there aren’t many players who have averaged 33 home runs and 105 RBI the last two seasons. Thomas is an OBP machine and, unlike Sheffield, he’s played an average of 146 games the last two years.
