History:
The franchise was founded in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings and became a charter member of the National League in 1876. The team was also known as the Colts and Orphans before becoming the Cubs in 1901.
Memorable Moments:
- The Cubs won four championships in five years from 1906 to 1910, led by the famous infield of Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers and Frank Chance. Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance was the subject of a famous poem of the day.
- In 1998, the Cubs made a rare playoff appearance, led by Sammy Sosa, who dueled with Mark McGwire for the home run record late in the season. He finished with 66 home runs.
