  • In 2001, led by the dominant 1-2 punch of Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling on the mound, the Diamondbacks won a dramatic World Series over the New York Yankees on Luis Gonzalez’s single in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 7 off Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.
  • Behind longtime slugger Willie Stargell, the “We Are Family” Pirates – named after a popular disco hit that year – won the 1979 World Series in seven games over the Baltimore Orioles.
