- In 1995, the Mariners made the playoffs for the first time and fell behind 2-0 to the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series, but rallied for three consecutive victories. The third win came on a two-run, 11th-inning double by Edgar Martinez after the Mariners had fallen behind in the top of the inning. The Mariners lost to Cleveland in a six-game American League Championship Series.
- Led by rookie Japanese star Ichiro Suzuki, the 2001 Mariners set a record with 116 regular-season victories, but lost to the Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
