Great column from ESPN's Rick Reilly today on Vince Albitz, a minor-league shortstop in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

He's been sending baseball gloves -- donated from his friends, teammates and a whole bunch of other people -- to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

Said Albitz:

"I read where the soldiers over there get lonely and bored. I feel that way sometimes, you know? New town, new team all the time. And I'm just playing baseball. These guys are putting their lives on the line for us. I just thought somebody ought to thank them for it."

He has sent nearly 300 by himself from his parents' house in Torrence, Calif. His goal is 1,000 by the time spring training begins and he needs to ship off to Florida.

Read more about it in Reilly's column, and you can go to Gloves4Troops.com or mail Vance directly at 23133 Hawthorn Blvd, Suite 303, Torrance, Calif. 90505.
