Bean counters slash movie on Beane
You know how when you read a book, it seems inevitable that this will be a movie someday?
I never got that feeling when reading "Moneyball," the Michael Lewis non-fiction best-seller that chronicled Oakland A's GM Billy Beane and the new wave of sabermetricians in charge of baseball teams. Baseball by way of math? Yeah, I can see Brad Pitt in that role.
The funny thing is, somebody did. And Pitt actually agreed to play Beane in a movie that was scheduled for a 2011 release, with well-known director Stephen Soderbergh at the helm.
But somebody at Sony Pictures apparently had the same reaction as me, and the film was put on hold.
It might come back again, if another studio wants to take a swing at it. But this film just got yanked from the on-deck circle, and probably for good.
